  CHAPTER 1.

Julia stood in her solitude in the corner of her room, staring blankly outside her window into the dark mountains. The moon was at its height. She heard a group of owls hooting from a distance. A serene wind passed over her young face. She sighed a long sigh. Her breathing grew heavier as she bit her lower lip and crossed her legs. She was wearing the white, long shirt which had once belonged to David, her dead husband. She held a glass of red wine in her hand that shook as she held it in her elegance. She sensed some eyes passing through her body from far beyond the hills. She felt a sudden shiver run down through her spine. She shivered involuntarily and let out a little hiss like a snake before shutting the windows.

The night sang different songs of depressing notes, of which only Julia could relate. She looked around her room which was shaded by the dimly lit lamp. There were a lot of papers scattered around, along with liquor bottles, cigarette cases, untidy clothes, and many books on different themes. She glanced at her big bra and gave a sly half smile to herself. The wine glass clattered as she gulped the entire glass in one go. Delicately wiping her plump lips, she sat on a chair and stretched her long, thick legs in front of her so that she could stare at her beautiful toes. She closed her eyes and let the intoxication catch her.

Her legs gracefully split apart as the wind ran through them, in between, arousing her sleeping desires. She thought about the wild time she had spent with her husband before he died. He died in an accident on a highway when he was riding his motorcycle. Her husband was always mysterious and elusive. He had never shared anything about his family with her. Keeping her worries about the past aside, Julia closed her eyes to relive the intimate moments that she had shared with her husband. Her bosom heaved and swelled as she felt her wetness through her crossed legs. A gasp escaped from her lips as she lay on the bed, her curvy body squirming in helplessness with her desires creeping from her toes to her ankles and up through her thighs. She took the pillow and placed it between her legs, biting her lower lip, imagining the passionate and beastly love that she had made with her husband just some moments before he had been taken away from her.

The wind howled through the window as it grew wild with her passion. Julia clenched the pillow tight in between her legs and gave a jerk to her head. She could feel her juices flowing as she craved immensely for her husband, or any strong man, to satiate her thirst. It was not a specific lust, but her natural desires that were emerging from deep inside of her. Her bosom heaved with intensity and her nipples became erect with her an immense desire. She felt the wind clutching her wrists and pinning her down, groping her every part. Something touched her juicy lower lip and began to pull and suck her lips with a wild rage. A moan escaped from the corner of her mouth as she lay helpless on the bed, her arms stretched, and her pillow between her legs, which continuously rubbed against her lower thighs.

The wine glass fell and shattered on the floor, but Julia didn’t come out of her fantasy. Her intense desire for a strong man ravaging her body and cherishing her full body beneath his own started to form a sort of delirium within her mind. She ran her hand over her neck and she could feel her lower body parts twitching with a healthy swell, forming like the peak of a mountain. Her pillow, still between her thighs, appeared to her like some wild, strong bear. She liked that fantasy a lot. She took her teddy bear and shoved it between her legs, replacing the pillow with its soft body. Moans escaped from the corners of her tender mouth as she continued to rub the bear against her wet mound and squirm with pleasure. She felt warm waves within her about to unleash as she throbbed against her teddy bear. She was about to climax when suddenly she felt that someone was watching her from the window. Her desires vanished instantaneously. She ceased the pleasure.

Her heart beat faster than a lightening strike. She folded her knees up to her chest and clutched the teddy bear close to her, like a little girl. She glared through the window and her eyes stopped and focused on two big eyes that stared in at her through the darkness. Her heart began to beat faster than before. Julia was sinking into a muddle of confusion. She called out in an involuntary whisper, “David! David!”

Julia curled up on the bed, still holding her teddy bear close. Her eyelids grew heavy and began to slowly close on their own. She had almost fallen asleep when she heard a knock at her door. It was a rapid, hysterical knocking. Julia jumped up out of bed and reluctantly asked in a voice that showed confidence, “Who’s that?”

  Silence.

She asked again, more firmly, “Who’s that?”

  Silence again.

Julia lowered her head with a tilt as if she were preparing to duck a blow from some unknown force. Slowly and carefully, she unlocked the bar of the door and cracked it open just enough to peek outside.

Julia’s eyes almost bulged out of her head when she saw him; a very tall man, well-built, standing at the door. He was holding something in his mouth which kept only one hand free. “No wonder why there was no answer,” Julia thought.

The man stood with his droopy eyes, staring right through Julia, which made her feel completely naked in front of him as he seemed to gaze through her soul. He had pronounced lines from muscles that shown through his white shirt. He was glistening with perspiration as he stood in his torn jeans and long, unpolished riding boots. His eyes looked as though they were made of solid gold. His lips were thick. With his long fingers, he took the thing that he had been holding between his teeth and put it into the bag that he was carrying. It was a honeycomb. He brushed off his hands and coughed a bit to clear his voice. Julia and the mysterious man just stared at each other as if lost in some wild dream of eternity. His unshaven face and long hair gave her the impression that he was some mysterious absconder.

  CHAPTER-2

The stranger brushed Julia aside and entered without a word. He stood glared around the room, sat on the couch, and stretched out his legs. Julia, in her astonishment, stood agape by the door. She quickly gathered herself, and rushed toward him, shouting “Excuse me? Who the hell are you? And how can you invade my property without me inviting you?”

Without a flinch of surprise, the man confidently replied with a half-smile, “Well, young lady, you are excused! Allow me to
introduce myself: I am David’s cousin, Daniel. And to clear up your confusion, kindly take note that this is not YOUR property, it’s OUR property. I don’t need anybody’s invitation here.”

“You’re lying! It can’t be! He never told me he had any cousin, or family at all for that matter.” Julia said.

“I am not lying. I look like him, don’t I?” said Daniel with a wink and a smile.

“The resemblance is uncanny,” Julia remarked with a sigh.

Daniel took a pack of Marlboro cigarettes from his pocket and lit one with his Zippo. He lit one for Julia and she took it without breaking the gaze that they were stuck in. They each took a drag and watched one another exhale.

“So, how are you getting along here all by yourself?” asked Daniel through their cloud of smoke.

Julia finally broke their gaze and looked down at the floor. She adjusted her hair and replied quietly, “I’m okay.”

The time passed in silence. Daniel almost finished his pack of Marlboros and Julia just sat motionless, staring at him as she recalled how David had never told her that he had a cousin. And they looked exactly alike! He had never mentioned anything about his family. He had lived a very mysterious life. Daniel’s bag sat open on the floor in front of where Julia sat. She glimpsed the honeycomb that Daniel had placed inside of the bag before entering the room. She wanted to question him about it, but she thought it would be best if she didn’t push questions on her uninvited guest.

As Daniel looked around the room, he laughed a bit and asked, “When was the last time that you had dusted this place?”

Julia was snapped back into reality at his sudden inquiry. As she looked around the room herself, she blushed till she grew crimson. It was about 11:30pm. Daniel rose from his seat and picked up his bag. He sat back down on the couch as he frantically searched inside for something. He found what he had been looking for. He handed Julia a letter. It was a statement declaring that the entire estate belonged to Daniel’s family. His cousin, David, had mentioned his name as the rightful heir in the will. Julia read the entire letter and the will and shook her head in frustration and denial. She could not believe this! How could her husband, who had loved her very much, ever do such a thing without keeping her in the loop?! It’s true that he had kept her in the dark and had concealed a lot of things, but this was a complete shock. The real secrets were beginning to emerge with the appearance of Daniel at her door.

David had died in some freak accident on the highway, but his body was never found. The police were involved and rescue squads and helicopters had searched for him for weeks. David had disappeared a month ago, leaving Julia alone. Julia had never asked David about his family when they were together for fear of escalating his stress levels. Her husband was always busy in his work. He was a taxidermist.

The owls hooted at a distance and the wind was still blowing wildly. Julia was still wet from her interruption when Daniel had come. She had felt a sudden attraction towards Daniel from the moment she laid eyes on him. She didn’t want to resist this attraction, but she knew that she had to. She was thinking about all of this as Daniel grabbed a notebook that was resting on the floor near his boots. It was one of Julia’s personal diaries. Without any consideration, Daniel smirked and started to open the notebook. The moment Julia saw this, she sprung from her seat and tried to grab the diary from Daniel’s strong hands. He laughed as they wrestled around a bit. During their horseplay, Julia fell involuntarily onto Daniel’s lap.

Julia gasped as she felt a sudden rush of her blood as though some volcano had erupted inside her. Daniel could feel the weight of Julia’s beautiful, full body on top of his. He made a little move and Julia got up and fled to the kitchen. Daniel forgot about reading the diary and dropped it onto the floor. He followed Julia to the kitchen where she stood near the refrigerator, in front of the stove, staring at a pan in a blank delirium.

“Aren’t you gonna sleep?” Daniel asked, innocently.

“No, I’ve slept a lot already. Was sleeping all day, just got up a few hours ago.” Julia shortly remarked.

“Good. I never sleep.” said Daniel.

Julia looked at him and moved aside as he entered the kitchen. He saw the open bottle of wine on the countertop and poured a drink for himself. For a moment, Julia felt that this had all happened before and that Daniel was not a stranger at all. The way that he had behaved since the moment he had entered the house made her feel as though he knew everything about the place from the beginning. He was so much like David.

Julia noticed something on the right side of Daniel’s neck. It appeared like a claw mark from some kind of an animal. It looked fresh. She didn’t question him. She wanted to ask him so many things, but she didn’t. Julia had a habit of keeping her questions to herself. She was not a person who would make men go crazy by asking too many questions. She was reserved.

Daniel noticed that Julia had grown pale. She looked nervous. He asked her if she wanted to take a walk outside and get some fresh air. She happily obliged. It was feeling too stuffy in that kitchen and she was sick of the sitting room. They opened the back door and stepped out into the garden. There were leaves all over the ground. She could hear them crunch under her slippers in the darkness of the night where the owls were mating, oblivious of anyone’s presence. Daniel played some classical music quietly from his iPhone and hummed along as they strolled. Julia felt an eerie shudder creep down her spine. That was something that David would do all the time. Julia felt the beginning of a headache settling in and she wanted to go inside and lie down. As if he had captured her thoughts at that moment, Daniel looked at her and gently asked, “Why don’t you go and lay down for a while if your head hurts?”

Julia looked at him in bewilderment. She felt as though she were delusional. His tone was the same as David’s. They had all of the same ways.

In her lethargic gait, Julia walked slowly, squinting her eyes and rubbing her temples with her fingertips. They reached the back door and Daniel escorted her to her bedroom. She drank a glass of water quickly as if she were dehydrated. She started to feel better immediately. Suddenly, there was a movement outside the door, which grabbed their attention. The night was young and wild, the wilderness held many unknown creatures. They heard a groan which soon multiplied into a chorus of groans and evolved into painful howls. Julia moved close to Daniel and clutched his collar in trepidation as they rose and quietly moved toward the door.

They opened the door slowly and carefully. Julia jumped but did not scream. There was something strange in the back yard where they had been just moments before.

  CHAPTER- 3

Daniel and Julia went outside and crouched down under the window in the backyard. He took his knife from his leather pouch. They crept closer to the thing until they could see it digging in the ground with its claws. It was her brown terrier. Julia was overwhelmed with relief and immense love for the dog. She called it and it ran to her. She held its little face in her hands and began to pet it. Daniel returned his knife to the pouch and they all went back inside the house.

Julia gave some biscuits and crackers to the dog which it ate greedily and after which it slept immediately.

Daniel and Julia went back into the sitting room where they had their first encounter. They sat down on the couch, facing one another. Julia stared deep into Daniel’s eyes for some minutes without uttering a word. She was lost in thought. He did not avert his gaze. Suddenly she asked him, “So, what is it all about, the property papers?”

Daniel got up from the seat and began to pace the room. He refused to give details. Julie didn’t push. She tried to respect the reasoning behind his silence, whatever it may be.

“Can I fix you some dinner?” asked Julia.

Daniel reached into his bag, plucked out the honeycomb and said, “I had mine, thank you.”

Julia nodded without understanding what Daniel meant. It had been several hours since she last had a bite to eat and she was feeling quite hungry, so she excused
herself and went to the kitchen. Daniel sat on the couch with the dog, who had taken the opportunity in Julia’s absence to cuddle up next to Daniel on the soft cushion. Julia’s diary caught his attention from the floor once again. He was very curious about her and wanted to read it without her noticing. He looked around and saw her taking out some pots and pans and some cooking utensils. He knew then that she shouldn’t be back from the kitchen very soon. He figured that this was his only chance to look at the diary without giving himself away. He randomly flipped through the pages and read furiously, like a scared child who was hiding a book full of dirty jokes from his teacher. One of the pages caught his eye. It was a narration about some dream that she had about the trees. The excerpt read:

“I had a dream when David was gone for a week for some work. It happened suddenly after I had dozed off without any warning. I saw myself in a forest full of bears who were dancing around me. There was a bonfire. The bears seemed more human than beast. I was not scared, but it was indeed weird that I found myself in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of bears dancing around me. I was naked and had nothing to cover myself with. There were dead honeybees near my feet. I saw two bears coming closer to me. They both held me in their grip. It made me quiver but I loved the feeling. In front of the other bears, the two wild bears started to lick me everywhere as they held me. One of them had a scar. The sight of it startled me and woke me up.”

Daniel turned more pages and read similar dreams. He heard Julia’s footsteps coming from the kitchen. He tossed the book back onto the floor and lit a cigarette. He leaned back on the couch and began to hum a tune. Julia came with a plate of food and a glass of wine. Her clock gave a whistle. It was 2:00 am. Julia sat down on the sofa in front of Daniel, folding her leg with her foot under her hip. She held a plate of mashed potatoes, green olives, tomato, boiled carrots, boiled French beans, and a piece of French bread with garlic paste inside and plain cheese. Daniel stared at the food and licked his lips at the scent of it, as though he was some hungry beast. Julia noticed and asked him if she could fetch him some food, but he refused. He just got up and poured himself a glass of wine instead.
